Unravel only as far as the mistake: there is no need to start again
Sometimes the mistake is several rows further down: a missed yarn over, an incorrect pattern repeat or an extra stitch that you only notice later. You may be tempted to undo the whole project, but fortunately that is rarely necessary. You can carefully unravel your knitting row by row until you reach the mistake, then continue from there.
Here is one way to do it:

Work slowly and, where possible, secure your stitches before completely removing the needle.

Gently pull the working yarn to unravel one row at a time.

Place the stitches back onto the needle one by one, making sure they are facing the correct way.
If you would like some extra security, you can insert a lifeline before unravelling. A lifeline is a thin contrasting thread passed through the stitches of a correctly knitted row below the mistake. It prevents the stitches from dropping any further if you unravel too far or accidentally lose some from the needle.
Leaving a small mistake: sometimes that is an option too
Not every little knitting mistake needs to be corrected. Small irregularities are part of the handmade character of a project.
A misplaced stitch, a discreet twisted stitch or a tiny imperfection can sometimes simply be left as it is, provided it does not affect the structure, fit or comfort of your finished piece.
